Former House of Representatives member and President of the Bauchi State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Aminu Mohammed Danmalikin Bauchi, has said any constitutional reform affecting Nigeria's structure must be preceded by extensive consultations and national consensus.

Reacting to a viral report alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intends to rename Nigeria as the “United States of Nigeria,” abolish Sharia criminal law and restructure the federation, Danmaliki said such sensitive matters require careful handling.

He noted that issues relating to federalism, religious freedom, resource control and Sharia law remain highly delicate and should not be addressed without the involvement of all stakeholders.

According to him, no constitutional reform can succeed if it is perceived as undermining the beliefs, identity or interests of any region or faith group.

He stressed that the constitutional rights and legitimate interests of all Nigerians must be protected in any future reform process. NNL.
