The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has strongly condemned the killing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasarawa State Chairman, Hon. Philip Shekwo, who was abducted in his residence last Saturday and found dead on Sunday November 22, 2020.
IPAC in a statement on Monday evening by its new national publicity secretary, Ambassador Agbo Major, described the murder as "outrageous, barbaric, despicable and sadism of the worst order."
The statement further said that "IPAC is saddened by this man's inhumanity against man, and urges the security agents to swing into action and fish out the perpetrators of this murder and their sponsors and bring them to justice to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate this dastardly act.
"The security agents should also be pro-active in protecting lives and property of the citizenry in tandem with section 14(2)b of the 1999 constitution as amended, which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government".
The Council however warned against politically motivated killings ahead of the 2023 general elections and urges politicians to imbibe politics without bitterness in the ongoing alignment and realignment of political forces.
IPAC said that the group "shares the grief of members of the late Philip Shekwo's family and his political associates, and pray to God Almighty to console, comfort and strengthen them in this period of bereavement.
"IPAC is in the vanguard for the conduct of free, fair, credible, transparent and violence-free elections and urges politicians to shun do-or-die politics and brigandage as we jointly build a strong, virile, progressive and equitable democratic nation", the statement said. NNL.
