The Awe family of Akure in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday, formally announced the demise of their prominent son and renowned journalist, Mr Mike Olusesan Awe (a k a Micheal West).
Micheal who was a relationship/lifestyle weekly columnist with this news medium (Nigerian NewsLeader Newspaper) and a popular relationship adviser in the media, reportedly died in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, June 11, 2022, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, according to a signed statement on behalf of the family by Mr Isreal Ayo Awe.
Mike Awe who was 59-year-old, was a senior journalist who has had a distinguishing media career in Punch, Nation and New Telegraph newspapers, among other media organizations where he had worked.
He was an experienced production editor in both Saturday Punch and the Nation Newspaper on Saturday, as well as a weekly columnist with the Nigerian NewsLeader (Online/Print) Newspaper and the New Telegraph newspapers where he had carved a nitch for himself in recent years in relationship journalism.
The statement by his family reads thus:
"It is with great sadness but total submission to the will of God that the entire AWE Family of Akure, Akure South Local Government Area Ondo State announces the passing away of our son, brother, and father Michael Olusesan Awe (a k a Michael West).
"He was born on the 10th September 1963 in Akure, Ondo state, and died on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
"Mike, as he was fondly called by friends and admirers, was involved in a ghastly motor accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
"He breathed his last at the Ogun State Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
"Mike is survived by an aged mother, children, and siblings.
"Burial arrangements will be announced later.
