As more condolence messages continue to pour in for the family of the deceased music icon, Lady Onyeka Onwenu, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwolu, at the weekend, paid a condolence visit to the children and family of the 'Elegant Stallion'.
Onyeka who ruled the Nigerian and African music industry with her creative songs that essentially rooted in folklore, love, unity, oneness and human rights, etc, passed on last week in Lagos at the age of 72, shortly after her last musical performance at the 80th birthday party of Chief (Mrs) Stella Okoli, Founder/Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceutical Group.
Governor Sanwolu had in his condolence entourage, his deputy, Mr Obafemi Amzat , his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho and a few other officials.
Speaking while condoling Onyeka Onwenu's sons, Tijani and Abraham, governor Sanwolu expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the family of the superstar crooner, adding that her "extraordinary life and the lasting impact she made with her timeless songs have solidified her legacy".
Sanwolu whose condolence visit was adjudged timely and commendable by the Igbo community in Nigeria, stated that "The vibrant spirit she (Onyeka Onwenu) embodied and the joy she shared through her artistry will always remain in our hearts.
"May God grant her family the strength to endure this loss and the comfort to cherish and honor the remarkable legacy she leaves behind", the governor prayed.
Onwenu's children expressed their appreciation to the governor for the condolence visit, pointing out that the national outpouring of sympathy to the family was an indication of love and the general appreciation of their mother's contributions to development of the Nigerian nation, Africa and the world at large.
Meanwhile, one of Onyeka Onwenu's personal friend and colleague in the broadcast media industry, Chief Bisi Olatilo who was present during Sanwolu's visit, however thanked the governor for his thoughtful and kind gesture, praising Onyeka for her musical and social impact in the lives of her fellow countrymen and humanity in general.
