- * 'Our State Has Been Drawn Backwards', they say
By Nahum Sule (Taraba State Correspondent, in Jalingo)
Residents of Taraba state have expressed their feelings on poor leadership quality by the present administration of governor Dairus Ishaku, saying they wish to have a better leader as the next governor of the state.
Some of the residents who spoke to NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Newspaper Correspondent in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, said that they want another Jolly Nyame or Danbaba Suntai but not a Dairus Ishaku type as next governor again.
The residents made their feelings known while answering questions on who they wish to be their next governor irrespective of party affiliations. They simply answered that they do not want an Ishaku type, they want another Jolly Nyame or Danbaba Suntai to be the next governor of Taraba, in order to restore the state's lost glory of development.
They decried the current era of infrastructural decay in the state and what they described as the fruitless 8 years of governor Darius Ishaku in the state. They however pray that the next governor should be in touch with the spirit of development so as to to return the state to her former position of greatness among Nigerian states.
The residents, Mr. Eric Nashuka Wukari, Jubri Ando, and festus Agbu, while particularly lamenting the state of the Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo, Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo, Taraba State Specialist Hospital Jalingo and the Taraba Motel Jalingo, which hitherto were the revenue hubs of the state, also expressed that governor Ishaku has abandoned the glorious institutions to decay without constructing new ones.
"We wish to have another Jolly Nyame or Danbaba Suntai to be the next governor of Taraba state. We don't want another Darius Ishaku who would come and kill all the working sector without establishing any.
"You can imagine the state of the Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo, Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo, Taraba State Specialist Hospital Jalingo and the Taraba Motel Jalingo which hitherto were the revenue hubs of the state. This great institution are decaying to the last degree but the governor doesn't mind to rescue them from becoming scrap and the specialist hospital is gradually becoming a disease contracting center due to lack of running cost to the institution since seven years ago.
"No meaningful project has been executed in the state since 2015 and the state debt profile has risen from N117 billion to over N300 billion.
"All the revenue generating institution you see in Taraba were established by either, Jolly Nyame or late governor Danbaba Suntai. We have never seen a poor government like the one of governor Darius Ishaku. He has failed completely. He has no meaningful project to point at since 2015. He embarked on the construction of 192 km of rural roads since 2015 but up till now, non of the roads hace been completed and the only greenhouse he constructed has since collapsed.
"The best thing God would do for us as people of Taraba state is to ensure that an Ishaku type is not elected again as governor in the state. If an Nyame or Danbaba type is elected as governor, Taraba state would regain her lost position of greatness and be in the contending position of development amongst great Nigeria states", the residents declared.
