Women in Taraba state have continued to shower encomium on the State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, for sponsoring the Violence and Discrimination Against Persons (Prohibition) bill while describing it as timely.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Hauwa Kwenan, said women will be the direct beneficiaries of the bill when domiciled in the state, adding that it will salvage the women from their teething problems.
According to her, when assented to act by the governor, it will tackle some of the problems being faced by women especially in their matrimonial homes and their plight will become history. She reiterated that the bill will address daily challenges ranging from domestic violence, rape, and discrimination against persons.
Said the Commissioner: "Let me use this medium to say a big thank you to Mr. Speaker, Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, for taking the bull by the horn, I believe that most of the challenges that women face in their daily lives will be addressed through this bill by the time the governor assents to it. I have been with the Speaker from day one to this very moment, and I thanked God that such a wonderful bill will be domicile in Taraba. Having been passed into law, the Speaker is someone who is so passionate about women's affairs and that was why the Women council singled him out for an award during International Women's day in Jalingo. We salute his sense of judgment. We call him "He for She" he is gender-sensitive and friendly".
Also speaking in an interview with our Correspondent, a female politician known as Hon. Lami Mammah, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, applauded the Speaker for taking the bold step in sponsoring such a sensitive bill. She described him as a visionary and pragmatic leader whose passion for women's emancipation can not be overlooked.
She, therefore, prayed for more wisdom and insight as he pilots the affairs of the State House of Assembly.
It could be recalled that Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, sponsored a bill titled : Taraba State Violence and Discrimination Against Persons ( Prohibition) Bill, 2021 which has already been passed into law awaiting assent by the governor.
