The Centre for Rural Emancipation, Economic and Social Development(CREESDO) will celebrate World Environmental Day on June 4, 2022, by planting trees with the students of Assumpta Girls Secondary School and St. Patrick's Secondary, Oguta, Imo state.
In a statement on Thursday, June 2, 2022, by CREESOD, Founder/President of the Centre, Com. Christian C. Okororie, said the schools will plant trees in commemoration of the World's Environmental day.
According to Okororie, the Tree Planting Project was launched last year by the Children Environmental Club ( C.E.C ) made up of 3 primaries and 3 post-primary schools ( public and private schools). He stated that "We plan to extend it this year to all the private and public, primary and secondary schools in Oguta ( about 15 schools ).
"They will be trained to own their environment. It is their future hence the motto: "Our environment, our future, our environment. We will train them to plant and maintain these trees in botanical gardens to replace those waste dumpsites in Oguta .
"They will be trained in ICT now, or they miss it! We have the capacity to draw aids, laptops, printers and other equipments to these schools. We want to grow self-reliant, gainfully employed, and basic skills acquisition.
CREESOD wants to stop the dumping of refuse at all dump sites in the community and encourage households to buy waste bins. NNL.
