The Department of State Services (DSS) has said the attention of the Security Service was drawn to a publication in the Vanguard newspaper Online version of July 6, 2022, which reported that a suspected inmate who attempted to escape from the Correctional Center during the Kuje prison attack by terrorists but was reportedly apprehended near Kwali after a hot chase by gallant Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) officers, was an operative of the DSS.

According to the DSS in a statement on Thursday, July 7, 2022 by its spokesman, Dr Peter Afunnanya, the report further stated that the so called DSS operative also claimed to be “carrying out a special mission in the forest”.

The statement said all those claims were false, and that none of it's personnel escaped from the Kuje Correctional Centre following the unfortunate attack on the Abuja prison.

Dr Afunnanya stated in the release that the "Service (DSS) wishes to state that none of its personnel was involved in the escape episode. In fact, at the point of the attack on the prison, no DSS personnel was an inmate at the holding facility just as the claim of carrying out a special assignment was non-existent"

Afunnanya however warned that the Vanguard Online report was absolute fiction and downright "misleading", and advised the general public to utterly "disregard it". NNL.
