  • * As 2022 Conference Begins Thursday

Ahead of today (Thursday, October 6) edition six of the 2022 annual Convention of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers of Nigeria (GOCOP), heads and top leaders of Corporate Communications in Nigeria's Corporate establishments and Agencies of Government were treated to a luncheon at the GOCOP's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

The event which was essentially a pre-conference interactive and business engagement by guest Corporate Communications experts with the respected members of the Nigeria digital media publishing and their executive committee members, took place at the ornate auditorium of the Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Wednesday's strategy meeting with partners in both private and public organizations, also had in attendance, other key players in the public relations and advertising industry in Nigeria.

Many of them who had the opportunity of interacting physically with the members of the internet news publishers, however offered professional opinions on how members can improve on their media services so as to offer real value and engender support from the corporate organizations among other business operational tips.

President of GOCOP and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Real News Magazine Online, Maurene Chigbo, spoke at the occasion, pointing out the essence of the AGM event and the parley with the Heads of Corporate Communications, Public Relations and Advertising in the private and public organizations. She urged the need to strengthen the existing relationships between GOCOP body and Corporate Nigeria, especially in the area of serving the needs of Nigeria's local society.

Immediate-past President of GOCOP and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Eagle Online News, Mr Dotun Oladipo, presented a power point briefs on how Online News Media organizations especially owned by GOCOP members could attain good and impressive Google rating.

The successful AGM event witnessed the presentation of reports by the various committees earlier set up by the President to handle specific purposes for GOCOP. Such Committee reports made available and billed for deliberation by the General Congress of GOCOP include the Constitution Review Committee and the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee both Chaired by the former President, Dotun Oladipo, and the report of the Finance Committee also chaired by Ichie Azu Arinze, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of YES Magazine Online.

Enthusiastic GOCOP members who attended the pre-conference AGM in great numbers, also expressed their delight, so far, with the proper organization of this year's conference. They specifically commended the chairman of the 2022 GOCOP Conference Organising Committee and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Political Economy Online News, Mr Ken Ugbechie and his Committee members for a good job well done.

However, the main event which is the annual Convention for year 2022 begins today, Thursday October 6th, at the same Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos venue, where new members are expected to be inducted towards the end of the conference event.

Today's epoch convention will feature the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, who is the keynote speaker for this year's Confab Theme titled: “2023 Elections: Managing the Process for Credible Outcome. Other panellists comprises the former Inspector General of Police, Dr Solomon Arase; Dr Umar Ardo, founder of the Centre for Alternative Policy Perspectives and Strategy (CAPPS) who incidentally will preside over the occasion.

Others in the panel of speakers are: Barrister Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a renowned human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Dr. Chichi Aniagolu-Okoye, Regional Director, Ford Foundation (West Africa). NNL.
