The Bauchi State Government has decried the influx of illegal migrants into the state, saying that the security strength of the state is already threatened.
The State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadri Mohammed, stated this on Wednesday when he received executives of the Police Community Relation Commitee, PCRC, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Bauchi.
Represented by the State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tella, the Governor said that Bauchi state is one of the most secured states in the federation, adding that inspite of the influx of people from neighbouring states of the North-east, the government has been able to maintain the peace in the state through partnership with the police, para-military outfits and voluntary Organizations like the PCRC.
"The population of Bauchi State is getting to 7 million now. In the last three years, the population of the state was within 3 to 4 million. Inspite of the lean resources and the stress on social facilities, the state has been peaceful because of the prowiness of the state Governor who has been able to guide the citizens through the muddy waters of the state"
"However, some people are coming into the state illegally. You see trailers loaded with people coming into state from other places without any permission.
"Of course, as a Nigerian, one has the freedom of movement and freedom to choose where to settle, but it has to be done legally. In this regard, we want PCRC to assist the government with advice and intelligence gathering because there can be no security without intelligence" The Governor said
Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of PCRC, Dr Faruk Abdullahi Maiyama, said that PCRC was Inaugurated in 1984 and is a national Organization saddled with the responsibility of fostering cordial relationship within the police, the community and other security agencies in the country.
He added that the Organization is in Bauchi state to hold it's National Executive Meeting and confer on Governor Bala Mohammed the Grand national patron of the Organization. NNL.
