Niger State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Hassan M. Taura, said on Thursday that two corps members of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 lost their lives within the service year.
The State Coordinator who disclosed this during the Passing out Parade (PoP) of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 of the Corps which took place at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium in Minna, however did not give their details and what caused their deaths.
A total of 926 corps members successfully completed the one year mandatory national service and three out of them found wanting because they absconded from place of primary assignment and are to repeat the national service.
Meanwhile, Niger state government has charged the out-gone corps members to put into positive use all the skills acquired during the service year for self development and that of their immediate environment.
Secretary to State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who gave the charge during the passing out parade (PoP) of the 921 corps members that successfully completed their mandatory national service year in Niger state, also encouraged them to always ‘think Nigeria first’ in whatever they do after the NYSC service.
Ibrahim Matane urged the ex-corps members to always have a positive outlook on issues affecting Nigeria as a country they can call their own. He also charged them to intensify effort towards contributing their fair quota to the country's growth and development in whatever capacity they can.
The Niger state government scribe who said he is impressed that the corps members exhibited high sense of maturity and discipline throughout their sojourn in the state, encourage them to always allow the lessons of selflessness and humility learnt during the period to guide them in the obvious realities of life after the mandatory national service.
“I must commend most of the corps members for exhibiting high sense of maturity, devotion, hard work and persistence throughout the duration of this national assignment. I strongly urge you to continue with the same spirit as your exit the service into the labour market”.
Matane further told the ex-corps members who would be joining the labour market that, “Government is aware of the security challenges being witnessed in parts of Niger state and the country as a whole, hence efforts are being made to tackle the issue”. NNL.
