A former federal lawmaker, Aminu Danmaliki, has warned that portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a religious conflict could further divide the country.

Danmaliki gave the warning while addressing a press conference in Bauchi, where he cautioned against narratives suggesting that the nation’s crisis is a Christian-Muslim war.

According to him, such interpretations risk deepening sectarian mistrust, strengthening extremist propaganda and weakening peace-building initiatives.

He said the focus should instead be on addressing security threats through reforms, tackling terrorism financing and strengthening intelligence cooperation.

The former lawmaker also urged Nigerians to reassess their relationships and interactions across communities and states in order to promote national unity and stability.

Danmaliki further called on religious leaders and government authorities to speak out against misinformation and ensure the effective enforcement of laws to maintain peace in the country. NNL.
