In a few months, the country will be holding it's general election and as campaigns are in top gear, there are a lot engagements and observation bodies, both local and international, who are studying the development on the conduct of the election.
Tranformation Monitoring Group(TMG), a foremost independent civil society election observation organization in the country is not resting on it's mandate to ensure credible electrical processes.
The group, which seeks to secure the highest standard in the administration of election by ensuring that both management and electorates carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the law, has Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani at the helm of affairs.
Rafsanjani, who is also the Head of Transparency International-Nigeria and the chairman Board of Trustee, Amnesty International-Nigeria, took up leadership position of the group since August 2021.
He noted recently the commitment to the steering of affairs of TMG which he and his team have observed with concern the intolerance exhibited by politicians and supporters in the build up to the election and campaigns around the country.
He said it is pertinent to note that if these actions by politicians are left unchecked, it would impede the efforts the media and civil society have made to improve the country's electoral reforms.
Rasfanjani added that young people today are interested in electioneering process as participation of the youths has grown to a large degree. He noted that it was not unconnected with the innovative reforms of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Rafsanjani stressed that his team intended to hold politicians accountable for every promise made during the campaign season, while also urging Nigerians to keep their own documentation to demand accountability from elected politicians and their political parties.
He disclosed that TMG is also looking to partner with election debate groups in ensuring that political parties and their candidates participate in public debates as part of citizen's engagement for more credible elections. NNL.
