Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said the N4.68 billion modernization of four recreational parks in Bauchi State will strengthen tourism and create opportunities for increased economic activities.
Jonathan stated this on Monday while performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the projects at the Golden Jubilee Park in Bauchi metropolis.
The project covers the construction and modernization of the Golden Jubilee Park, General Hassan Usman Katsina Park, Shehu Adamu Park and Suleiman Adamu Park.
According to the former President, recreational parks are more than places for leisure, as they provide opportunities for healthy living, family bonding, physical activities and social interaction.
He said the modernization of the facilities would also make Bauchi more attractive to visitors while creating an environment capable of supporting businesses and other economic activities.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said the initiative was part of efforts by his administration to provide more green areas and functional recreational facilities for residents.
He said the Golden Jubilee Park holds particular significance in the state’s history, having been established during the celebration of Bauchi State’s 50th anniversary, when 50 trees were planted at the location.
Governor Bala also disclosed the establishment of a Parks and Recreation Department within the Ministry of Housing and Environment to ensure proper management and sustainability of recreational facilities across the state.
He said the government was committed to developing public spaces that would improve residents’ access to recreation while contributing to environmental beautification and tourism development.
The projects are expected to transform the four parks into modern recreational centres serving residents and visitors across Bauchi State. NNL.
