The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal, with the number of candidates involved in all forms of exams related malpractice declining from 3, 878 in the year, 2025 to 1, 406, representing 64.74% in the year, 2026.
A total of, 1, 334 candidates with special needs, including 640 male and female hearing impaired participated in the SSCE whereby 1, 378, 903 registered but 1, 371, 992 comprising 678, 903 male and 693, 089 female sat for the examinations.
Registrar/Chief Executive NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed this at the formal release of the results at the Council’s headquarters along Minna-Bida road on Thursday.
Coming exactly 63 days after the conclusion of the examinations, Professor Wushishi said the NECO SSCE (internal) took place across the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and six foreign countries namely; Togo, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Saudi Arabia, Benin Republic and Cote d' Ivoire.
Other candidates with special needs that participated in the SSCE internal examination across Nigeria and the enlisted foreign countries, Wushishi further explained included; 149 male and female visually impaired, 84 male and female albinoes, 94 autistic people and 126 candidates with low vision.
Professor Ibrahim Wushishi who attributed the timeliness of the release of the results to the hardworking staff said 231 male and female candidates with adermatoglyphia participated in the examinations.
The Registrar who however did not disclose the number of centres where candidates with special needs sat for the SSCE and the number involved in examinations related vices said 804, 948, representing 58.67 got 5 Credits and above in English and Mathematics.
While expressing appreciation to the President for his reappointment, Wushishi acknowledged the understanding and cooperation of stakeholders, including school owners, principals, teachers, parents and partners without which the job of successful conduct of the examinations wouldn't have been possible.
NECO management, he said also appreciates the entire staff, journalists for responsible reporting and informing stakeholders with accuracy and as well, other people who have contributed in one way or another to the successes recorded by the Council over the years. NNL.
