As the quite village of Goronyo in Goronyo local government, Sokoto East Senatorial District still mourns the dead of 65 people drown in the recent boat mishap, but yet to be apprehended terrorists have once again attacked the village killing 4 people, abducted 4 others and left many with various degrees of injuries.
The terrorists similarly attacked Gidan Kare in Tureta local government, Sokoto South Senatorial District killing an Islamic cleric Mallam Abubakar Danjimme
and abducted yet to be determined number of locals, DSP Ahmed Rufai confirmed both incidents.
DsP Rufai who is the Sokoto State Police Command Spokesperson however said he was yet to get details of the casualty in the Gidan Kare incident at the time of filing this report.
In the Garau attack, the terrorists were said to have targeted bereaved families who lost loved ones and were gifted a million naira each and bags of grains by the Sokoto state government when Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko alongside the deputy governor, Mohammed Idris Gobir and other top government officials as well APC party stalwards paid condolences visit on behalf of governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Talking on the scale of the Gorau attack,
the village head, Alhaji Aliyu Magaji Na-Batsami, confirmed that 11 people were shot during the incident.
“Eleven people were shot by the terrorists. Seven of them survived and were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while four others died instantly.
"The attackers calculatively targeted families who lost loved ones in the recent boat tragedy, apparently in search of the ₦1 million relief money reportedly donated by the Sokoto State Government to each bereaved family.
“They went from house to house searching for the money. Their main target appeared to be families of those who died in the boat accident.” Aliyu Magaji affirmed.
Registering his grief over the attack,
the member representing Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, Bashir Usman Gorau, expressed sadness over the double tragedy just as he sent his condolences to the affected families.
In a related bitter development, another set of terrorists, Thursday attacked Gidan Kare village in Tureta local government, Sokoto South Senatorial District killing an Islamic teacher and whisked yet to be ascertain number of locals.
Gidan Kate is amongst the villages in Tureta local government where locals have to move to the local government headquarters every night to evade attack before returning in the morning to attend to daily routines.
Speaking to out correspondents over their plight, Malam Ibrahim Dangaskiya who has relocated to the metropolis over fears of attack said, for a very long time now, only the men sleeps with all their eyes widely opened in the village while the youths, women and children makes it a daily routine to trek to Tureta town to stay alive.
While decrying that the terrorists took a different approach today, Dangiskiya said, they came to the village in the morning and opened fire on anything at sight.
He also confirmed that the terrorist also abducted Mallam Dan Manga, Shehu, Hassana and Hussaina, Badaru, Saratu and others that are still missing whose identities are yet to be confirmed at the time of this report. NNL.
