Rotary club of Abuja Sapphire District 9125, recently held her valedictory speech, community women empowerment , induction ,fund raising and award night as part of activities to mark the end of its rotary year.

The president of the club, Rotarian Chinyere Ezenwokike, in her valedictory speech, lauded the efforts of club members, who, according to her, have been outstanding in their support to her leadership and the Rotary club.

She noted that the plan for the rotary year, as it concerns projects, has largely been actualized while work is still in progress, adding that the four programs combined together were necessary to mark the end of the rotary year which ends on the 30th of June.

The president disclosed that the fundraising was intended to build a water borehole in Durumi community 3, being the club's adopted community for the Rotary Year 2020/2021. She also said that about 21 new members were inducted to contribute to the rotary's humanitarian services.

Ezenwokike added that select women in Durumi community (I) who were trained on skill acquisition have been given start-up grants in cash to support their businesses.

She thanked the club for giving her the opportunity to serve as president while explaining her journey heading the club for the whole of the Rotary year which afforded her the opportunity to come in contact with so many beautiful people who impacted meaningfully to the club.

The President-elect, Rotarian Festus Nwadike, however, explained that as the president was rounding up the rotary year, it is important to combine these programs for this season, adding that the fundraising was geared towards providing potable water for an adopted community

He noted that to achieve this, the club members are enjoined to come together to provide support for the president. The eventful night also saw over 10 members of rotary receiving awards for their various efforts throughout the year in appreciation for the roles they had played.

One of the awardees, Dr. Brenda Max- Nduaguibe, who was honored with a leadership and humanitarian services award as a Paul Harry Fellow, contributed to the rotary foundation. She expressed her appreciation to the club and explained that it feels good to be recognized for her efforts as a provider of humanitarian service to impact people's lives and make a better society.

Nduaguibe said: "we are not doing it for reward, but when rotary club international recognizes you for what you have done, it gives you satisfaction. She explained that humanitarian service has been part of her life as a founder of a non-government organization (NGO) Purplehands Empowerment Initiative, which caters for women and children by stimulating opportunities for them to work in one community at a time we work in rural areas", she said.

Another awardee, Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, President of Medical Women International Association, who presides over 50 countries and who has been medical personnel for about 40 years, expressed her joy for being honored for the award for excellent service. She noted that it is exhilarating to be recognized for one's years of service to humanity. NNL.
