The Nigerian football community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Sani Zubairu, President of the Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA).
Joining others in mourning, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) extended its condolences to the referees’ body, describing the loss as devastating.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, said the late Zubairu was widely respected for his role in advancing refereeing standards and promoting professionalism in Nigerian football.
The association noted that his leadership and passion for the game earned him recognition across the football ecosystem.
SWAN further expressed solidarity with the NFRA and the bereaved family, urging stakeholders to uphold the values the late administrator stood for.
The late Zubairu will be laid to rest in Bauchi on Tuesday according to Islamic rites. NNL.
