The Bauchi State Police Command says the use of covered or missing vehicle registration plates has become a major tactic employed by criminal elements to avoid detection, prompting the launch of a statewide enforcement operation.

Announcing the exercise, the command disclosed that vehicles with obscured, defaced, unauthorized, or absent number plates will be targeted beginning June 15, 2026.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has instructed police formations across all 20 local government areas to strictly enforce the directive, warning that offending vehicles will be impounded for investigation.

The police noted that proper vehicle identification is crucial in tracking suspects, solving crimes, and improving emergency response to security incidents.

While seeking public cooperation, the command assured residents that the operation is a proactive security measure aimed at making Bauchi safer and more secure for all. NNL.
