The chairman of the Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi, Rev. Abraham Damina, has expressed concern over the attitudes of some political party supporters carrying dangerous weapons during the campaign rallies in the State.
Damina who made the statement at a one-day sensitization stakeholders meeting organised by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Tuesday in Bauchi, noted that supporters of political parties were in the habit of carrying dangerous weapons during electioneering campaign.
According to him, the recent trends by the political party supporters in the state are becoming worrisome and posed great threats to the generality of the voters.
Damon's said "I'm a living witness where I, saw supporters of political parties holding dangerous weapons like cutlass, knife iron sticks, etc at campaign rallies in the state.
"I'm calling on the security agencies and INEC to look into this problem and call the attention of all political parties to order to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in the state.
He also called on religious leaders in the state to preach and educate the followers against carrying and using dangerous weapons during their campaigns rallies for free elections violence at their respective places of worship.
Damina further called on the parents to warn their children to desist from involving in political thuggery and other election violence.
He added that what the Country needs is to have smooth, free, fair, credible, and acceptable elections in all the 36 states including the federal capital of territory, (FCT) Abuja. NNL.
