A female police Inspector serving with Ode-Omu Police Division in Osun state, has accused her Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), one Mr Ajayi Mathew, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), of physically assaulting her and attempted to strip her naked for refusing to succumb to his alleged amorous advances towards her.
The woman police officer identified as Mrs Olorunsogo Bamidele, made the allegations on Tuesday , November 1, 2022, in a trending video on social media, where she narrated her alleged ordeal in the hands of ASP Ajayi Mathew. In the said video, the female police officer showed her viewers the fresh injuries she sustained on her two hands, her neck and chest areas and on her arms on account of the alleged attack.
The officer also alleged that the DCO manhandled and beat her up in the presence of her subordinate police constables and other officers and civilians for no offence other than her refusal to go into a love affair with him on the basis that she would not desecrate her marital vow. She said her boss who would not accept her excuses and explanations of being a married woman, however insisted that they must be lovers.
The female officer stated that her excuses got Mr Ajayi Mathew so infuriated such that he started to blackmail her claiming that they were friends which she denied as untrue before he proceeded to attack her and inflict injuries on her body.
Not done still, she further alleged that ASP Ajayi Mathew, at some point, drew a dane gun and threatened to shoot her before he was restrained by other police officers and civilians present. She said they quickly spirited her out to safety.
The female officer who appeared so traumatized, however called on the police authorities in Abuja to intervene in order to prevent DCO Ajayi Mathew from eventually killing her.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, ordered a full investigation into the matter. The State Commissioner of Police, Faleye S. Olaleye, informed the general public that the Command is aware of a trending video on social media of a woman Police Inspector, Olorunsogo Bamidele allegedly assaulted by her DCO, ASP Ajayi Mathew, in Ode Omu Police Division in the State.
The Police Commissioner, it was learnt, has interviewed both the accused ASP and the woman Police Inspector on the incident which the command viewed as unprofessional act. Also, the CP has consequently directed a discreet and thorough probe of the incident in order to unravel the circumstances behind such unethical conduct.
He however assured the general public that the command will ensure justice on the matter. NNL.
