Immediate-past Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo state governor on State Orientation Agency, Chief (Dr) Fidel Onyeneke, has appealed to Nigerians to strive to ensure peace and unity in the country despite the present economic hard times.
He made the appeal in Owerri on Wednesday, February 6, 2024 while addressing a forum organized by the Great Foresight Initiative for Peace, Leadership and Development.
Chief Onyeneke said that most of the problems facing the masses could be ameliorated in an atmosphere of peace and civil order. He observed that many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Religious bodies have not devoted enough time and resources towards promoting peaceful co-existence among the indigenes of Imo state.
The veteran journalist also called for a more aggressive method of engaging the populace and convincing them to shun all acts of lawlessness, wickedness and descriminatory behaviour against their fellow human beings. He however cautioned the people not to succumb to the temptation of indulging in nefarious activities due to frustration and desperation arising from the prevailing hardship in the country.
Onyeneke urged the masses not to lose faith in the government at all levels, assuring that with collective resilience and faith, the current societal obstacles faced by many Nigerians' would be addressed by the government.
The former Special Adviser expressed optimism that the Imo State government would roll out programs that will touch positively on the lives of the masses, and equally restore their confidence in governance. He further admonished the people to contribute towards the development of their Communities, as according to him, the task of sanitizing the society remains a joint responsibility of both the government and the governed.
Chief Onyeneke was later conferred with a Good Leadership and Humanitarian Award at the event by the President of the Organization, Evangelist Samuel Ezeji. NNL.
