The National Association Of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Sokoto state chapter are to embark on indefinite strike on Monday next week.
The chairman of the chapter Abubakar Alhaji Shehu disclosed this to newsmen shortly after their Congress meeting at the Association's Secretariat .
He said members of the Association are going on indefinite strike as directed by the national headquarters of the Association .
He said NANNM as an appellate of Nigeria labour Congress are going on Strike to challenge the recent increase in petroleum products by the federal governments.
The NANNM chairman explained that members of the Association are fully aware of the consequences of the strike on patients in Hospitals and primary health care centers but they were left with no option than to join the national body.
" we will however look in to some critical areas and provide skeleton services, areas such as Maternity and Emergency units to save lives. " says the NANNM chairman.
He confessed that, it's the poor that would suffer by the strike considering the number of them lying in state's own health facilities across the country. adding that the recent hike in petroleum would also a burden to already poverty stricken Nigerian public.
The Nigerian leaders always want the poor to be much poorer and rich much richer considering the current hash economic condition experienced all over the country.
He said the only way to avoid the forthcoming nationwide strike called by the NLC is for the federal governments to rescind to the former pump price of petroleum products.
" All our 1700 Nurses and Midwives will partake in the indefinite strike scheduled to kick start on Monday the 28th of September." Says the NANNM lesder
