Zamfara state governor, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has received 12 kidnapped victims and two AK 47 rifles surrendered by seven repentant bandits as part of the ongoing dialogue with bandits in the state.

The 12 kidnapped victims which include four teenagers were abducted over two months ago in Rungumau village in Bungudu local government area of the state.

Governor Matawalle said the ongoing dialogue is yielding positive results as many bandits are now voluntarily surrendering weapons to the security agencies through the state government.

Matawalle called on leaders in the country particularly in the north to join hands and work out modalities to fight banditry and other crimes in the region.

“It is not a failure or a sign of failure for someone to initiate dialogue. Nowhere in the world where war is succeeding without coming to the table to sit down and negotiate,” he said.

The governor said his administration will continue to do everything humanly possible to mop up arms from the bandits.

Speaking on behalf of the repentant bandits, Samaila Auta vowed to abandon their former ways of life and to allow peace to reign in the society.

The bandits took an oath to stop banditry. NNL.
