Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) has challenged his colleagues to engage in projects they will be remembered for and less on personal aggrandizements.
Fayemi was in Minna, Niger state capital on Tuesday 3, 2021, at the instance of his Niger State counterpart, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, to commission reconstructed and rehabilitated Bosso estate road network.
In an interview shortly after the project commissioning, Fayemi encouraged his colleagues to work hard to leave behind legacies that will outlive them but which they will be remembered for in line with the policies and programs of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.
Governor Fayemi said, “Government and governance are not about what we claim or reported by the media but by embarking on projects that is not only needed but appreciated by the citizenry and less on personal aggrandizements”.
Describing Governor Bello as having done his best to improve on the people’s immediate needs notwithstanding limited funds at his disposal, Governor Fayemi said, “I can see the passion of your Governor to the interest of the citizenry.
“This is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari's desire that we attend to the immediate needs of the people by ensuring that we resuscitate and rehabilitate old and new roads, not leaving out other administrative needs of the people”.
Governor Fayemi also reminded his fellow Governors on the need not to neglect primary responsibilities of; improving on the education and health sector of their respective states while also not forgeting the pensioners who had served the states meritoriously.
On his general assessment of the performances of his colleagues as the Nigerian Governors Forum Chairman, Fayemi told journalists that, “All our governors are trying their best in doing what they were elected to do, notwithstanding individual peculiar challenges”.
He also said that the reason for the NGF is basically to ensure they live up to the expectations on working for the common interests of the electorates, stating that he is happy that most of the governors have not deviated from doing just that.
“We try to live by the essence of forming the Nigerian Governor’s Forum. We meet, reflect on a lot of things and also learn from each other's peculiarities of challenges before the various states and take into considerations facts that what Ekiti people's may not be what Niger people need”.
Governor Kayode Fayemi was later conducted round the rehabilitated/reconstructed Bosso estate roads by his host, Governor Sani Bello, before his final departure from Minna, the state capital. NNL.
